It's so boring in the office!

Here's a poem that I'd always remember when it comes to working in the office:

The Photocopier - by Richard Miles

Yes, I'm sure you've experienced something like that before - paper jams; computers disconnected from printers; empty toners etc. And admin work in the office can sometimes be so mundane and so unnecessary that it drains your energy just thinking about having to complete it. The endless to-do lists that continue to grow each hour. Or perhaps, there are times when you set your mind to completing task A, and while searching for a necessary document, an email B requiring your immediate attention comes in... you go about doing that other task B ... and end up forgetting about task A ... And you only finally remember task A when you're in the midst of task C. Sounds confusing, isn't it? Disorientating, isn't it?

Don't get me wrong. It's not always like that in an office. Perhaps it's your cup of tea. Perhaps you are able to find meaning in the office. And that's fine! I'm speaking specifically to the people who find yourselves stuck in the office - stuck in an office job that you hate.

You know how stable things can be in an office, right? And this stability may be something that deters you from moving, and you slowly feel more and more rooted to your environment.

In NLP, we seek to analyse our lives at a deeper level. The six neurological levels of thinking about one's situation follows the following hierarchy: environment (most superficial), behaviour, capability, beliefs, identity, spirituality (deepest). You may now notice that simply being rooted in our environment may not be the most ideal. How then can we check if our situation is aligned across all six levels, so that we maintain a sense of congruity between who we truly are and where we are?

It's all about setting the right goals the right way. If you could do anything, what would you want to be? What would you see, hear, and feel when you finally reach where you want to be?

What's stopping you from getting to where you truly want to be? What specific roadblocks are there?

Get those answers down right now and soon you'll see how powerful you can be to move to where you want to be.
